A. Chitwood

Madison - Arthur James "Jim" Chitwood, age 81, passed away on Friday Sept. 4, 2015 at his home. He was born May 1, 1934 in Richland County to the late Vibert and Mollie (McNamer) Chitwood. Jim married Kathryn "Mickey" Burmeister on June 19, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church in Madison.
Jim was his kid's biggest fan, never missing a game. He loved being with people from all walks of life, and his home on Rowley Ave. was open to them for over 50 years. He was an avid sports fan, engaging his children from an early age. Jim loved the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and the Wisconsin Rugby Club. He enjoyed playing golf, having the pleasure to golf a round at the fabled St. Andrew's in Scotland. In addition to his joy of cooking, he enjoyed relaxing to the music of Johnny Cash and Roger Miller. Jim was the treasurer and proud member of Lather's Union Local 111, and also member of the Carpenter's Union Local 314. One of Jim's treasured memories was building the Shoe Slide at Vilas Park. He was also a member of the Catholic Knights.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years Mickey, 5 children; son Andrew (Kristine) Chitwood, and their children Ian, Caitlin and Abbey; son Daniel (Christine) Chitwood, and their children Drew, Kate and Patrick; daughter Tammy Angel and her daughter Carrie; daughter Michelle (David) Horton and their children Lindsey, Molly, Michael and James; son Matthew (Tami) Chitwood and their children Caleb, Logan, Elizabeth and Alexandra; a sister Barbara (Larry) Ledman, and he is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Loren Angel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Friday Sept. 11, 2015 at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2121 Rowley Ave. Madison with Fr. Pat Norris, O.P. presiding. Entombment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. A lunch will follow the Mass at church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday Sept. 10, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, and also from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass on Friday at the church.
