Adam Martin

August 21, 1980 — January 12, 2019

Madison, WI. - Adam Jon (AJ) Martin passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2019. He was 38 years old.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jon Martin, paternal and maternal grandparents, maternal aunt, paternal uncle, and maternal cousin. He is survived by his mother, Helen Ruth Martin, sister Hanna Marie Martin-McArron, brother-in-law Jack Joseph McArron, nephew Bentley James and niece Irelyn Rose Martin-McArron, as well as an extended number of uncles, aunts and cousins from both sides of his families, and many friends.

Adam spent his life as resident of Spring Harbor Neighborhood, where he was raised among a tribe of fellow children. He attended Montessori Children's House for preschool, followed by Our Lady Queen of Peace, John Muir elementary and Jefferson Middle School. He was a 1999 graduate of James Madison Memorial High school, and further attended Madison Area Technical College, focusing in photography and liberal studies.

Adam was very fortunate to grow up in a neighborhood and household that was always filled with love and support. Relatives and friends poured from all corners of the world, including the many international students who were hosted in the Martin home over the years. Most notably, Danek Bondar of Venezuela, whom Adam considered to be his brother. Their bond, developed as teenagers and has never been interrupted.

Adam cultivated many interests during his life, including philosophy and a relentless pursuit of spiritual understanding, always asking the big questions about life. He was a skilled photographer and martial artist, earning his black belt among friends at Karate America. He had a spiritual and sensitive nature, and was inspired by his father Jon with a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed visiting many national monuments and parks within the United States, as well as a family trip to Italy and Portugal in 1994, where he visited his other international brother, Simone.

Above everything, Adam was a devoted and beloved son and brother. A friend to all, especially his elders and neighbors, he never hesitated to help others in need and respond to any suffering around him. His zeal for life, deep love for others, and desire to connect to the universe will continue to be an inspiration to the family and friends who will always remember him.
