Adrienne Grannis

July 5, 1922 — September 4, 2009

Adrienne E. Grannis (nee Ely), age 87, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2009 following a brief illness.   She was born July 5, 1922 the daughter of Jay and Josephine (Hamline) Ely in Chicago.   Adrienne was raised in the Lake Forest Il. and Thomasville GA.    She was united in marriage to Captain William Given Grannis in October of 1945.   Adrienne graduated from Dobbs School in Dobbs Ferry, NY.   She worked for the Red Cross with the Navy during WWII.   The family settled in the Madison area in 1953.   While residing in Madison she was on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association, Attic Angels, and Briar Patch, and a supporter of HospiceCare.   She was also on the Board of Directors of the Women's Western Golf Association.  Adrienne was an avid golfer, even after surviving breast cancer. She was also involved with the Madison Curling Club, and was a member of the Maple Bluff Country Club.     She was a bridge player, a voracious reader, and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, most of whom knew her as ""Auntie A,"" or simply ""A"".   She traveled extensively, but never during football season as she was a knowledgeable and devoted Packer Backer, as well as a Badger season ticket holder.   She had a penchant for living, and led a full rewarding life. She is survived by her children; Carolyn Grannis   Smith, William D. (Jeanane) Grannis, and Anthony E. Grannis, three grandchildren; Dustin (Lori) Smith, Sean (Wendy) Smith, and Hanna Grannis, and four great grandchildren; Ahnan, Wilona, Sienna, and Brynn.   She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1992, her sister Carolyn Ely Pyle, and her brother Jay Morse Ely.   A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at GRACE   EPISCOPAL   CHURCH, 116 W. Washington Ave., Madison, WI.   In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison, WI   53711, in Adrienne's name
