Albert Kanner

February 11, 1931 — March 18, 2018

Madison - Albert V. "Al" Kanner, MD, age 87, died peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Attic Angel Health Center in Middleton after battling multiple myeloma since 2010. He was born on February 11, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Leo and June (Lewin) Kanner. Al attended Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland Medical School. His graduate training in ophthalmology was done at the University of Wisconsin. He practiced in his specialty in Madison for 35 years.

Al met the love of his life, Dolores Hoback, at the University of Virginia biological station in 1953. They were married at their auditorium one year later. They were married for 59 years until her death in 2013.

He is survived by his four children, Sue, Jim, Steve, and Jeff, and eight grandchildren.

Al is very grateful to "his Dolores", many caretakers, friends, neighbors, and Attic Angel Association.

Special thanks to Anne Thompson, a great friend and neighbor, who shared many happy events with Al over the past several years.

A celebration of Al's life will take place on June 24th, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Attic Angel Place Community Room, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton, WI 53562 (608- 662-8842.) Please join the family and share your favorite memories of Al.

Memorial donations may be made to Attic Angel Association, First Unitarian Society of Madison, American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
