Sun Prairie - Albert "Al" J. Oehrlein, age 86 passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012 with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 22, 1925 in Madison, the son of Frank and Margaret (Kuhle) Oehrlein. Al enlisted in the United States Army during World War II serving for two years with the 32nd Division Red Arrow Brigade. On December 15, 1945 Al was united in marriage to Frances Birkinbine. Together they raised "nine magnificent-wonderful children". For over 23 years, Al worked as a production engineer at Wisconsin Porcelain Company and then as a Borden's milk distributor for over 12 years until his retirement. Al was an active, charter member and past commander of the VFW Post #9362 and past member of the American Legion Post. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, treasurer of the church council as well as a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Al also was a past member of the Lion's Club and volunteer member of the Sun Prairie Fire Department. Even though Al devoted his time for many, he always seemed to find time for the ones closest to his heart....his family. Al is survived by his eight children; Gail (Dan)Goodman, Jeri (Terry) Gorman, Jon (Linda Eckert) Oehrlein, Jody Oehrlein, Jean (Bob) Kronzer, Mary (Stephan) Poster, Tod Oehrlein, and Brad (Anita) Oehrlein, eight grandchildren; Jackie, Jason, Kelsey, Trista, Tyler, Kelly, Jayme and Macy, three great grandchildren; Sam, Owen and Teagan. He is also survived by many other loving family and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances, son Alan Oehrlein and brothers Paul and Frank Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SACRED HEART OF JESUS & MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus St, Sun Prairie on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 11:00 am with Monsignor Duane Moellenbrendt officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Mary's Hospital on 8SW and the Cardiac Unit and also to KindredHearts in Sun Prairie for all the wonderful care and compassion given to our Dad. "Happy Birthday Dad! You didn't give us everything we wanted but you gave us everything we needed. We will always love you."
