Albert "Al" Johnson

SUN PRAIRIE—Albert “Al” L. Johnson, age 73, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Home Again Memory Care from complications of Alzheimer’s.  He was born on December 18, 1949 in Berlin, Wisconsin to Allen “Swede” and June (Malnory) Johnson.

Al grew up in Redgranite, Wisconsin with four brothers: Gary (Mary), Stanley, Gene (Debbie), and Robert (Millie); and two sisters: Dawn Johnson and Connie (Dave) Kiekbusch.   From the age of four, he shared many adventures with his best friend Steve (Mary) Preston.

Al graduated from Wautoma High School in 1968 and Fox Valley Technical Institute in 1970.

Drafted into the United States Army in 1970, he served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972.  He married Connie Foster in 1974.  Together, they welcomed three sons: Brian (Jenny), Marc (Courtney), and Michael (Tina).   Al has four grandchildren:  Ethan, Kennedy, Audrey, and Aiden.

Al worked for the Sun Prairie Street Department for 37 years, retiring in 2016.

Al was a proud member of the Sun Prairie Volunteer EMS for 22 years.  He was also a member of AFSCME/Local 160 serving as Vice President and President for many years.

Al was preceded in death by his parents Allen and June; brother Warren; and sister Dawn.

Visitation will be from 10-12:00 PM (noon) on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Cress Funeral Home SUN PRAIRIE with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 PM.  Full military honors will follow the service.

The City of Sun Prairie will be creating a memorial in honor of Al’s dedicated service.  At this time, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations for this memorial be sent to them directly for the future creation of this dedication.
