Alcira Muñoz Luna passed away peacefully on February 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 30, 1930, Alcira lived a vibrant life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering strength. She was 93 years old. Alcira was the beloved wife of Francisco Muñoz, together they shared 54 years while living in West Allis, New Berlin, and Bogota, Colombia. As snowbirds, they would enjoy living in Florida. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership.
The family was at the center of Alcira’s world. She was the loving mother of Marta (Steve) Genthon, Adolph (Julia) Muñoz, Elizabeth(Daniel) Kretschmer, Lucia Heugh, and Steven(Marilyn) Muñoz and a devoted grandmother to Marissa, Matthew, Nicolas, Rebecca, Brandon, Bradley, David, Christina, Alissa and Alexander and great-grandmother to Olivia, Jax and Jace. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and milestones. Alcira was loved by many extended family members whom she has fostered.
Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Alcira emigrated to the United States at the tender age of twenty. Alcira was a born entrepreneur and had a delicatessen on Milwaukee’s east side. Through mutual friends, Alcira met the love of her life Francisco. Alcira worked at JC Penney in IT operations until retirement. Alicia’s interests in life were uncommon for women of her generation, she enjoyed investing in the stock market. Despite her success investing in the stock market, Alcira always believed, “If you have health, you have wealth. In her personal life, Alcira enjoyed cooking for her family and guests. Her love for life and zest for exploration inspired all who knew her. To Alcira age was a number, not an obstacle.
As an athlete, Alcira enjoyed bowling and golf with her workmates and friends. In her later years, she participated in Aquacise every week for thirty years. She approached every sport with grace, determination, and a competitive spirit.
In the face of adversity, Alcira’s courage and resilience shone brightest. She battled kidney disease and ovarian cancer, with her devoted family tirelessly caring for her every need.
