Alice Gill, age 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at UW Hospital in Madison after fighting a 3.5 year battle with cancer. She was born in Detroit on November 25, 1949 the daughter of Frank and Irene Wojtanowski.
Alice grew up in Detroit with her sisters, Irene, twin sister Ann, and Kathy. Alice attended Transfiguration Catholic School through eighth grade. She was a devout Catholic. Alice graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1967. During high school she interned at General Motors central office and continued working there until 1969.
On September 13, 1969 Alice married the love of her life, Thomas Gill. Together they moved to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas so Tom could complete his Military commitment. After Tom’s honorable discharge they moved to Kalamazoo for Tom’s aviation employment. Alice worked two jobs in Kalamazoo, Chamber of Commerce and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. In February 1972 they settled in Sun Prairie and started a family with Brian in 1976, Wesley in 1979, and Tyler in 1983. Alice enjoyed being a stay at home mother, raising her boys alongside her good friends on Horseshoe Drive. In the early 1990’s she returned to work in Human Resources for Walgreens Distribution Center. She touched many lives by helping employees with their benefits and other resources available to them. Alice retired from Walgreens after 25 years of service. She was dedicated to her family. Alice celebrated her son’s marriages and was provided with three beloved daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. She was the most gracious of hosts; there was always a spot at her table (along with her signature rolls) for family and friends. Alice enjoyed fashion, traveling, and fun trips to the casinos.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Tom; three sons, Brian (Kara), Wesley (Erica), and Tyler (Tressa); six grandsons and one granddaughter, Henry, Tommy, Charlie, Tanner, Eli, Faye, and Frank; three sisters, Irene (Van) Evans, Ann (Jim) Zinke, and Kathy (Greg) Andrzejewski; seven nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats, Harry Pawter and Gypsy. Alice was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie, with Fr. William Vernon presiding. Friends may greet the family from 8:30 AM until the time of Mass on Thursday at church.
Memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society or to ASPCA.
