Alice Kathryn Jackson

August 9, 1907 — January 1, 2011

Middleton - Alice Kathryn Jackson passed away at the age of 103 on January 1, 2011 at Attic Angel Place. She is joining her husband of 59 years in the sight of her Lord. She was born August 9, 1907 in Chilton Wisconsin to William and Leta (Hugo) Knauf. She attended the University of Wisconsin and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She married Kenneth John Jackson on November 17, 1928 and they moved to Madison. Alice was involved in the Red Cross during World War II, was active in the Madison Curling Club and volunteered at the University of Wisconsin Hospital every Thursday for 31 years, until the age of 99. She was known as ""Downtown Alice"" among the staff because of her familiarity with Madison.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Aleta Barmore (Duane); grandsons, Kenneth (Melissa), and Gregory (Jennifer) Barmore and four great grandchildren, Amanda, Benjamin, Zoe and Nicholas; her brother, Kenneth (Roberta) Knauf of Grayslake IL; her sister-in-law, Genevieve Jackson of Fitchburg and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 1988, her parents, and brother William and sisters Charlotte and Virginia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 405 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Alice's extraordinary family and friends who shared life with her, visiting, writing and calling. She taught us much about extending love to others, sharing whatever you have and putting others first. She exemplified grace, elegance and kindness and will be remembered for her positive attitude, her love of the Wisconsin Badgers, her cooking, rose gardening and baking skills, and for the inspiration she offered as a role model for others.

We are thankful for the wonderful care Alice received from the staff and angel volunteers at Attic Angel Place. Memorials may be made to Attic Angel Place Studio where her interest and talent for art was renewed, fostered and lovingly encouraged.
