Sun Prairie, WI - Alice Irene Lamont passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in her home having fearlessly battled pancreatic cancer that was diagnosed in March of 2022. Alice was faithfully cared for by her devoted and loving spouse and surrounded by her many friends and family over the course of her battle with cancer. Alice was a strong, generous, and playfully humorous and giving friend, spouse, mother, aunt, sibling, teacher of her high school and vocational students in her long teaching career, she was a civic leader, devoting many years to the causes of women’s rights, democracy, and many who just needed help.
Alice was born in Superior on March 7, 1944, the daughter of Waino and Irene Tikkanen. She graduated from South Shore High School. Alice received her Bachelors degree in Education from UW Superior. She earned her Masters degree while working as well as a loved teacher and administrator in the Clinton School district. Alice started as a classroom business education teacher working as an advocate for the kids who needed “hands-on” education. As a curriculum director she was a force for getting technology into the classroom, working tirelessly with colleagues and partners and writing many grants to get funds to make goals a reality. Alice was an excellent listener, and when she spoke everyone listened. In her later career she networked with local businesses and other communities to bring needed resources for students into the school. “It was all about the kids.” Alice made things happen for them.
On August 11, 2001 Alice was united in marriage to Philip Lamont. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Robert and Jeffrey Holm; two grandsons, Noah and Gabriel Holm; three step children, Ethan and Laura Lamont and their children, Henry, Walter, and Eleanor, Sarah Lamont, and Ann and Joe Engler and their daughter Evelyn; and siblings, Norman Tikkanen, Brenda Stone, and Donald Tikkanen, as well as their children, Ashley, Graydon, Melissa, Bradley, and Heather and their families who she also loved very much. Alice was preceded in death by her parents.
