Alice Moore

November 12, 1916 — December 4, 2011

Alice Plochman Moore(known as Lallie to her family) passed away peacefully at Capitol Lakes retirement center in Madison on December 4th, 2011, at age 95. She was born in Evanston, Illinois, November 12, 1916, the daughter of Carl Morris Plochman, a mustard manufacturer, and Margaret Webber Plochman. She graduated from Evanston High School in 1934, and Carleton College in 1938. She is survived by a brother, Carl M. Plochman(Barbara) of Evanston, Illinois; daughter, Lauren Pamela Altman(Matthew Thompson), of Santa Rosa, California, nieces Carol Plochman Ricker(Brad) of Madison, Christine Plochman Dowling(Martin) of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Sajidah (Zanuilabedin) Kazmi of London, England, Elise Enk(Gordon) of Seattle, Washington, Heidi Plochman Adkisson(Drake) of Seattle, Washington; Nephews Terry Plochman(Anne) of Lincolnshire, Illinois, Dr. David Werner of Palmer, Alaska, and Nels Werner(Cindy) of Burlington, Utah, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Her sister Amy Plochman Werner(Nels), brother Fred Plochman(Carol), and nephew Paul Plochman.

Alice was known and loved by many for her kindness, frankness, and sense of humor. She was a talented painter and wrote short stories and poetry. She lived in many places in her life, including France,California, Virginia, New York, Colorado, and finally Madison, Wisconsin. When she was 18, her parents purchased property and built a cottage on Pine Lake in Chippewa County, Wisconsin, a place that was close to her heart and where she spent many summers together with family. Alice was vibrant and active, and as she said, "Had all her marbles" to the very end, celebrating her birthday and Thanksgiving with family in the weeks before she passed away. Her family will miss her deeply.
