Alice S. Parsons, age 89, entered into the presence of her Lord on February 16, 2014. Alice was born September 29, 1924, the daughter of late Rev. Lillard and Bernice (Edwards) Southern, in Smithland, Kentucky. After graduating from Hopkins HS, in 1942, she entered Asbury College. She was graduated in 1946 and then taught at Alvin Drew, a Methodist Missions school in the mountains of Kentucky.
In the fall of 1947, she entered Asbury Theological Seminary where she felt the call to go to Japan. In 1948, she joined fifty young college graduates to go to Japan to teach. She was assigned to teach in Hirosaki, a feudal city in northern Japan.
In 1950, she married Norman Parsons, who was teaching in Sendai, Japan. They were married in Hirosaki, Japan. Then they went to language school in Tokyo to study Japanese. After language school they were assigned to do evangelism in the southern island of Shikoku. Alice and Norm planted and help build several churches. After twenty five years, they returned to New York State. Alice became the book buyer for a large Christian Bookstore in Buffalo.
Alice joined her husband in mission projects in Africa, Brazil, and Israel. They taught in China briefly. They spent most of 1994 in Uganda, at Alpha Omega Seminary where Norm taught. Alice worked as a secretary to Bishop Kim, of the Western New York Conference for two years. She was chosen with her husband to be a delegate to the World Methodist Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they led a group to help work in the slums.
Alice is survived by her husband, Rev. Norman Parsons, her son, David (Nita) Parsons from Titusville, FL, son, Rev. Mark (Jan) Parsons of Mayville, NY, daughter, Debbie (Bruce) Kramer, from Sterling, IL and six grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 5763 County Road Q, Waunakee, Wisconsin on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:30AM. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM and a celebration luncheon will follow the service.
