Allan “Ole” Eggleson, 94, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Army veteran, passed away peacefully in Stoughton, WI on October 26, 2023. His wife of 71 years, Joyce Anna Drayton, the Love of his Life, was by his side. He left a legacy as a devoted husband and a loving father, who touched the lives of many and made friends wherever he went. Born to Elmer and Anna Eggleson in Stoughton, Allan's life was marked by profound family commitment and enduring love. He found immense joy in cheering on his family in various sports, music, plays, and anything his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren were interested in. He created unforgettable memories for his family by taking them on annual ski, lake cottage, Florida beach, and Milwaukee Summerfest trips, numerous football, basketball, and baseball games; and concerts, too many to count.
Ole played high school basketball and played football on scholarship at Luther College until he broke his leg. He returned to Stoughton to finish his bachelor’s degree at UW Madison. Allan and Joyce met at Lake Kegonsa in the summer of 1951, and were married Aug 31, 1952, in Sycamore, Illinois. They lived in Indianapolis, Indiana; Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; Troy, Ohio; and eventually settled in Sycamore. Professionally, Allan received his master’s degree from Univeristy of Dayton in Ohio, was a CPA and the Head of the Internal Audit Dept at Northern Illinois University. After retirement, they moved back to his beloved hometown of Stoughton. Al and Joyce loved to travel all over the world, “snowbirding” with local friends in Arizona. He loved people, joking with all, even with hospital staff, and had a nickname for everyone. He was an avid fan of all UW-Badger sports, and supported NIU, Packers and Brewers sports. He enjoyed boating, fishing and both water and snow skiing. Allan was a proud member of the Stoughton American Legion Post 59 and enjoyed volunteering with all of his comrades.
Allan William Eggleson's memory is cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey. His surviving family members include his wife, Joyce, and his four children: Teresa, Marcia (David) Eggleson-Fry, Eric (Donna), and Peter. He leaves behind seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Aaron (Parisa) Fry (Adelina, Kianaz); Halie Fry (Eliana); Drayton (Darcy) Eggleson (Abigail, Eleanor); Jordan Eggleson; Colin (MaryRose) Eggleson; Sophia Eggleson; and Evan Eggleson. His dedication to his children and the joy he found in watching them grow and flourish was evident to all who knew him.
