Alma Homburg

December 8, 1919 — February 19, 2013

Cottage Grove /Madison - Alma F. Homburg, age 93 passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on December 8, 1919 in Cottage Grove, the daughter of Edward and Emily Seling. On January 2, 1920, Alma was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church by Reverend C. Mardorf and then was confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church on June 4, 1933 by Reverend H.C. Neemann. On March 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Henry "Hank" Homburg. Together they were faithful members of Hope Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church. Alma was very active at Hope Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School, Bible School and the many countless hours of doing things behind the scene for the church. She also was a serving leader for the Cottage Grove 4H Club. Alma loved children, flowers, gardening, animals and most of all her family.
She is survived by her three children; Jean (Dick) Lande of Cottage Grove, Carol (Bill) McGibbon of Ann Arbor, MI, and Ron (Vicki) Homburg of Cottage Grove, a daughter-n-law; Margaret "Peggy" Homburg of Cottage Grove, 9 grandchildren; Steve (Linda) Lande, Barbara (John) Hanisch, Amy (Jeff) Lang, Andy (Laura) McGibbon, Kelly (Dan) Buettner, Megan Homburg, Shannon (Shane) Reich, Jenna Homburg, and Dan (Kelly Stassi, Fiance) Homburg, 8 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law; Margaret Baumann of Madison. She is also survived by many nieces, nephew, other family and friends. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry, a son Robert, two sisters; Emma and Erna and two brothers; Ed and Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Road AB, McFarland, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 am with Reverend Chris Lee-Thompson officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of services. Graveside services will be held following the service at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Alma to Hope Lutheran Church, 3702 County Road AB, McFarland, WI 53558 and/or Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery, 4325 Vilas Road, Cottage Grove, WI 53537. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Reverend Chris Lee-Thompson, Dr. Steven Siewert, the staff at Oak Park and St. Mary's Hospital 8th floor SW for all the love, care and attention given to Alma and her family.
