Andrew J. Carolan

Sun Prairie-Andrew J. ""Andy"" Carolan, age 79, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010. He was born in Sheboygan, WI on November 25, 1930, the son of Michael and Jenny (Hummitzsch) Carolan. Andy graduated from Kohler High School in 1948. He was joined in marriage with Dorothy Wensink on October 27, 1951 at the Gibbsville Reformed Church, Gibbsville, WI. Andy was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1952, serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in October 1953. He was employed by the Kohler Company from September 1948 to April 1960 with the exception of the time he served in Korea. Andy worked as golf professional for 16 years in Marshfield, Hudson, Sun Prairie, Portage and Sebring, FL. He worked in the hospitality industry as both an employee and owner operator of bars, bowling alleys and restaurants, and also worked in manufacturing and warehousing until his retirement in 2000. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling and an occasional round of golf. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Dottie; children Linda (Jon) Lothe and Sue (Jim) Lothe all of Sun Prairie, Jim Carolan and Nancy (Steve) Lendborg, all of Madison, Gary Carolan of Tucson, AZ and Sandy (Bob) Konz of Middleton; 7 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Isabel (Edward) Wegner of Plymouth, WI and Mary Lou (Lyle) Fries of Cedarburg, WI as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Evelyn. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Cress Funeral Home, with Reverend Scott Carlson officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Sun Prairie Memory Gardens Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Andy's name may be made to the Parkinson Association or charity of your choice.
