Andrew Louquet Miller-Rhoads, age 52, of Madison, Wisconsin, was pronounced dead October 26, 2020 at a Madison Hospital. He was born February 29, 1968 at West Texas Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, the son of Rev Dr George and Marilyn Miller. He was raised in Western Oklahoma and graduated High School in Norman in 1986. He moved to Iowa City where he studied for three years, then sought greener pasture in Madison and lived there the rest of his life. Although he never completed his college work, he was always learning in the school of life. He particularly enjoyed theater and did some of his finest work playing Max Detwiler in The Sound of Music and Mr Snow in Carousal. He was a huge success as the dad in Bye, Bye Birdie and the headwaiter in Hello Dolly. Audiences said he was “made for the part”. The Madison Theater group enjoyed his work in their production of Kiss Me Kate, singing “Brush Up Your Shakespeare", and he loved to do recitals using his skills as a singer.
Andrew had a wide circle of friends in Madison, and he kept in touch with many, many more on “facebook” literally round the world. He was generous of heart but frequently wanting in pocket. Fortunately, he also had the gift of being content with whatever he had and rarely complained of what he had not. He was a voracious reader, most often books by, and about, famous people. He could speak about them as if he’d known them all his life. Though he had no children, he had friends, many in Madison and still more around the world. He was their loyal friend and enthusiastic fan, eager to applaud their good fortune, and quick to console them when they were down.
He is survived by his sister Dr Anne M Clayton of Colorado and myself, Rev Dr George L Miller, a retired Presbyterian minister, also living in Colorado. Andrew had a strong faith but was not much “into” church stuff. However, he and God were good friends. I have no doubt his early “passing” is not the end of his story. He has many more adventures ahead than any of us can imagine or dream of. Heaven is like that. I hope his friends will find the time to gather, remember, lift a cup and share how glad they were they got to know, enjoy and love him.
It was his wish to be cremated, and his ashes will be placed beside those of his mother at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Norman, Oklahoma. They both already reside in my memory and heart, and his sister’s too.
