Annabelle Acker

November 9, 1929 — September 29, 2024

Annabelle Acker, 94, our fun-loving Mother also known as silly Grandma, passed away at the UW Health East Madison Hospital on September 29, 2024. Annabelle was born November 9, 1929, on a farm near Black Earth to Mathias and Christina (Marking) Meier. She moved to Madison in her mid-teens to get a job to help her family on the farm. She worked at the Belmont Hotel. She and her friends would go dancing at Turner Hall which was off the square. There she met Orville Viney from Belleville. They married and had two children Kristine and Kevin. Orville passed away on August 22, 1961. She later met Edward Acker from Middleton. She met him at Club 18, another dance hall near Mt. Horeb. While living in Middleton and Waunakee, Annabelle worked several jobs as a bartender and grocery checkout clerk before going to the Goodyear Plant in Sun Prairie. She retired from there in 1992. Edward passed away on May 14, 2011.

Annabelle liked to have fun. She liked bowling, gambling, playing cards, dancing, and watching the Brewers and Packers. She was usually the life of the party. She enjoyed meeting people. She almost attended every wedding of her nieces and nephews. Any time she could enjoy a Miller Lite she would travel far and wide.

Her survivors include her daughter Kristine Viney and son Kevin Viney; grandchildren Matthew (Charlotte) Thornton and Dane Viney; great and great, great grandchildren, Joseph, Kassie, Cianna, Laila, Jase, James and Jack; her sisters-in-law Charlene Meier, Judy Meier, Elaine Meier, Billie Meier, Clara Church, Elaine Worringer, Marybelle Helgestad, Myrna Viney, and Ruth Viney; brother-in-law Floyd (Charlotte) Viney and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville Viney, husband Edward Acker, granddaughter Remington Viney, siblings Cecilia Brabender, Wilfred Meier, Alice Meier, Frances Kahl, Daniel Meier, Valentine Meier, James Meier, Phil Meier and Richard Meier.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 in the afternoon at 4:00p.m. at the Frenchtown Cemetery (St. Raphael’s) on Frenchtown Road near Belleville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Remington Viney Legacy Fund. Annabelle was very supportive of her granddaughter’s aviation career. The annual scholarships are for women to fund flight training, ratings or endorsements.

We want to give a special thank you to the Clarence and Valaria Acker family for all their support with food, flowers, gifts, and companionship. And to Donna McNary and Mary Haney for their support and friendship.

“Your life was a blessing and a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
