Anne Catherine (Bannen) Hoskins, 63, of Stoughton, WI, passed away very peacefully at home with her husband at her side after a very courageous and difficult 8-year battle with Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma. Anne was born on May 30, 1958, in La Crosse, WI. In her formative years she attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and Aquinas High School, graduating in 1976. She made lifelong friends wherever she went, remaining very close friends throughout her life with a group of her childhood classmates, coining themselves the “Blessed Sacrament Sacred Sisters”. During her high school years, she was a carhop at Rudy’s A&W on the south side of La Crosse. Her employment also included Cremer Jewelers in La Crosse where she developed a great appreciation of fine jewelry, and Gunderson Clinic in La Crosse where she was a Medical Technician. She married Mark Hoskins on December 27, 1986, in Hokah, MN, and the family moved to Platteville, WI, where she worked at Medical Associates Clinic in Dubuque, IA, for 3 years. They relocated to Prairie du Chien, WI, for one year, during which time she commuted to UW-La Crosse, very proudly completing her Bachelor of Science in Community Health and accepting her diploma while 9 months pregnant. The family settled in Stoughton, WI, where she worked in the Dean Clinic Neurology Dept. in Madison, WI, as an EMG Technician for 28 years. She loved all animals, especially dogs, and she befriended each and every one she encountered, always sharing the treats she sometimes carried in her pockets for just such meetings. An avid lover of gardening and birding, she was a member of the Stoughton Garden Club, taking great pride in her annuals, perennial beds, and her many African Violets. She loved travel, the sun, and the ocean, and their destinations included multiple trips to Negril, Jamaica, the Florida Coasts, and the US National Parks, the Grand Canyon being her favorite park. Anne was an avid kayaker, and also enjoyed RV camping, hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing. She was a great supporter of her community even through her painful illness, serving as a driver for RSVP Dane, Meals on Wheels, and also volunteering at the Stoughton Senior Center. No day was complete without enjoying her coffee in the morning, a cocktail before dinner, and a large mug of hot tea on chilly winter afternoons while reading a good murder mystery next to her fireplace. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Parish. We would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare for the wonderful and very warm care they provided our family, Carbone Cancer Center, especially Dr. Glenn Lui, for their part in giving us 8 more great and most cherished years with Anne - without which she’d not have known her grandchildren, and we also thank Michele Donahue for her love and tireless support of us always, but most especially during our very difficult last few days with Anne.
Anne is survived by her soulmate and husband Mark Hoskins; their children, Eric Hoskins of Oshkosh, WI; Jennifer (Russ) Biesterfeld of Sun Prairie, WI; 4 grandchildren; her brothers James W. (Marlene) Bannen of La Crosse, WI, and John (Carol) Bannen of Wauwatosa, WI. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, and her very close friend Michele Donahue. She was preceded in death by her parents, James J. Bannen and Ruth (Frisch) Bannen.
