Annette (Netter) Stratton

Beloved mother, Annette Louise Stratton, passed away peacefully on March 20th (the first day of spring) at Attic Angel Place in Madison, WI. She was 84 years old. Mom was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI but spent most of her life in Waupaca, WI, a city near and dear to her heart. She worked tirelessly to raise five children and to ensure that they had everything they needed to thrive. Mom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca.

Netter brought  much joy to those who were lucky enough to call her “friend,” and she had many from all walks of life. Her unmatched wit and warmth were infectious. One title that she wore proudly was “Life of the Party” as she was always ready to share a German pilsner or a bourbon old fashioned over happy hour.

A perfect day for Netter was spending quality time with family, basking in the sun, a game of cribbage, and a cocktail cruise on the Chain O’ Lakes with Patsy Cline gently playing in the background. She loved the camaraderie and competitiveness of sport, whether as a participant or a spectator. During her younger years, she was an avid curler and golfer, earning the moniker, “Down the Center Netter,” for her arrow-straight drives that always landed in the middle of the fairway. The Packers and Badgers were her favorite teams. Game day always featured a family pool with modest betting and a card game or two; your only choice was to participate and pay up.

Of greatest importance to Netter were her children and grandchildren. More than anything, Mom loved her family. She was happiest and at her best when we were all together, especially during the holidays and other celebrations throughout the year. Mom’s gift to her family is an enduring legacy of love. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

Netter is predeceased by her parents, Leona Zille Stange and Vincent Skilling, step-father, Dave Stange, mother-in-law, Louise Stratton, and sister-in-law, Sally Webster. Survivors include her sister, Shiela Thomack and five children: Teri (Susan), Lori, Peter, Jody (Mike), Stephanie, and dear friend, Helen Langas. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Libby (Brandon) Schmidt; Sam (William) Percoski; Mac (Chandler) Fisher; Ollie Fisher (partner, Mika Miyamoto); Peter Stratton; Maggie Stratton; two great grandchildren and precious nieces and nephews and their families.

Per Netter’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A celebration of life will take place at a later date; details to follow. We are profoundly grateful for the amazing care that Mom received over the past two years from the staff at Attic Angels and Agrace.  Memorials in her name can be made to Attic Angel Association or Agrace Foundation:
