A Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend
Anthony Joseph Cappozzo, known to all as Tony, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on September 10, 1951, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to Bruno and Josephine (Vitale) Cappozzo, Tony made his home in Sun Prairie, where he built a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and friends.
Tony was a proud graduate of St. Norbert College and spent over 30 years serving veterans as the IT Director for the Department of Veterans Affairs. His commitment to helping others extended far beyond his professional life, being a loyal and caring friend to all who knew him.
An avid hunter, outdoorsman, and wine maker, Tony had many passions. He was also a self-proclaimed skilled cribbage player and a proud collector. However, his greatest joy came from being a spectator and enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren at their many sporting events. His seven grandchildren adored him, and they will always remember him as loving, playful, involved, and supportive in every aspect of their lives.
In his final years, after being diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Tony handled the disease with incredible humility and grace, never allowing it to overshadow his love for his family, sense of humor, or his vibrant spirit.
Tony is survived by his wife, Val, the love of his life with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children: Dave (Katie) Cappozzo of McFarland, WI; Katie (Chris) Barmann of Platte City, MO; and Dan Cappozzo of Oro Valley, AZ. He leaves behind his sister, Joan Hackbarth of Elkhorn, WI, his beloved grandchildren: Nick, Abbey, and Charlotte Cappozzo; Ryan, Luke, and Josie Barmann; and Sophia Cappozzo.
The family would like to thank the caregivers from Agrace Hospice and Comfort Keepers for the loving care provided as well as our incredible community of friends and family who brought him much support, laughter, and happiness.
A visitation will be held at 3:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 pm on Friday, February 14, at Holy Wisdom Monastery, 4200 Co HWY M, Middleton, WI. Dinner will follow for all able to attend.
