Arlan H. DeBeir
3/28/1942 – 11/16/2021
Arlan DeBeir of Cottage Grove passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on November 16, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison after suffering a cardiac event at home.
Arlan was born in Sauk County on March 28, 1942 to Robert and Esther DeBeir, the only son and third of four children born to them. He had a happy childhood in LaValle, Wisconsin, making many lifelong friends. He attended Reedsburg High School and received a degree in marketing from UW Whitewater. He was drafted into the Army and served in both Korea and Vietnam. Arlan was employed by CUNA Mutual Group for nearly thirty years. He was respected by his co-workers and made many friends during his career. There, he met and later married his wife, Audrey (Berg). They were married for 33 years.
Arlan had a dry sense of humor, was a lifelong Badger and Packer’s fan, an avid golfer, a long time curler, a trapshooting enthusiast, a talented picture framer and stained glass artist. He was actively involved in West Koshkonong Lutheran Church and having Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior was a big part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Esther DeBeir, sisters, Gloria Giese and Roberta Mayer and nephews Mark Giese and Jason Mayer. He is survived by his wife and partner, Audrey, sister, Goldie Hurley, (Larry) brothers-in-law, Bill Giese and Charlie Mayer, an aunt, Eva Mittelsteadt, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends too numerous to mention, but you know who you are.
A Memorial Service will be held at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 1911 Koshkonong Road, Stoughton on December 1 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Eric Bakken, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at West Koshkonong cemetery. Masks will be required and all Dane County Covid protocols will be followed.
In lieu of flowers, Arlan has requested Memorials be made to West Koshkonong’s (WKLC) Sunshine Fund.
Special thanks to the Cottage Grove Police Department, neighbors, and First Responders from the DeerGrove EMS for their quick response and valiant efforts.
Rest in Peace, Big Guy. You were a good man and You Will be Missed.
