Janesville / Madison -- Arlene Jerdee (Mickelson) passed away from natural causes Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. She was born September 7, 1930 in Madison. Arlene was raised in Madison and lived in the area most of her 79 years. She graduated from East High School in 1948 and attended nursing school at Methodist. Arlene married Ken Jerdee on September 22, 1951. She was a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison for many years. Arlene and Ken left Madison to live and work in Rockford for several years in the 1960's, then bought a hobby farm near Stoughton where they finished raising their two daughters. Arlene was an active volunteer at her daughters' school and the family's church throughout those years. Arlene touched many lives through her volunteer service with American Cancer Society and Salvation Army. The family moved back into Madison while Arlene fought a battle with breast cancer during the late 1970's; then she and Ken retired to Bela Vista, AR from 1994-2002. The couple returned to Wisconsin in 2002, buying a home in Janesville then moving into Cedar Crest retirement center in 2006. She is survived by her two daughters, Cathy (Terry) Bollig and Diane (Chuck) Roth; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Beverly (Gerry) Fosdal. She was preceded in death by both parents; and her husband, Ken, who passed away October, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlene's name to the American Cancer Society, 8317 Elderberry Road, Madison, WI 53717. Mom and Grandma, we love you and will miss you dearly.
