Arthur Schultheis

October 15, 1922 — June 4, 2013

Arthur Eugene "Art" Schultheis passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2013 from health complications related to kidney disease. Art was born October 15th 1922 in Washburn WI to Eugene and Loretta (Posey) Schultheis. His family subsequently moved to Columbus WI, where Art graduated from Columbus High school. After graduation, Art began a 40-year career with the Wisconsin Telephone division of AT&T. During WWII, Art served in the signal corps of the 5th infantry division in western Europe. After the war, Art returned to work for Wisconsin Telephone in Columbus, where he co-founded the Columbus VFW post, served as its first commander, and became a life member. He married Alice Elizabeth Kanvik on October 4th, 1947. A few years later Art received a promotion from Wisconsin Telephone and the couple moved to Madison WI, where Art worked for most of his career. During this time he became a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and helped organize many of their civic and charitable activities.
Art enjoyed many hobbies including golf, photography, music, and woodworking. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus and St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Madison, where he sang in the choir. He is survived by his son Steven of Madison, his sister Donna Emkow of Columbus, plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brothers Harold and Bernard, and his sister Lorraine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, , 5313 Flad Ave, Madison WI 53711 on Thursday, June 13th, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Michael Burke and Art's nephew, Fr. Thomas Schmied officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
The family wishes to thank all the staff members at All Saints Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice who contributed to Art's comfort and care. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Art's name to Agrace Hospice or the Catholic Charities of Madison.
