Artie Lou Orlik

August 17, 1944 — November 10, 2010

Artie L. Orlik passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family.   She was born on August 17, 1944, to Adele and Arthur Clark in Crystal Falls, MI. Artie received her BA at the University of Michigan in 1965. She married Peter Orlik in 1964 and they moved to Madison in 1966. She taught mathematics, most recently at Madison West High School, and retired in 2004. Artie lived life with grace, high spirits, and humor. She loved gardening, reading, sports, and sunsets at the family summer home in Door County.   Artie is survived by her husband, Peter, daughter Anne Britt Orlik and partner Leah Creswell, daughter Katrina Phelps and husband Nate, grandchildren Alyssa and Riley Phelps, and mother Adele Broad Clark. She was preceded in death by her father Arthur S. Clark.   Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Noelle LoConte, Sandy, and the UW Health Oncology team for a remarkable last year and to Dawn, Rebecca, Erin, Kali, and the entire staff at Hospice Care for such kindness and grace at the end. We are also deeply grateful to family and friends who supported us on this journey.   Sympathy may be expressed by a contribution to HospiceCare Inc. 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway , Madison, WI 53711 . A celebration of her life will be held at HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy on Sunday, December 19 from 2-4 pm.
