Audrey Diehm-Schulz

Madison - Audrey Diehm-Schulz formerly of Madison for 52 years and lately of Fort Atkinson for 30 years, died on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare. She married Joshua M. Diehm II in 1944. They had two sons, Josh III and Kristopher. Her husband was a U.S. Navy pilot. She graduated East High School in 1941 and went on to Groves-Barnhart Secretarial School. She became a medical secretary and worked as a Navy wife in WWII. She worked at Pensacola, Florida Naval Air Station in Civil Service; hospitals in Memphis and Iowa City; and the Red Cross in Corpus Christi, Texas. As a civilian (after the war), Audrey worked in Resource Development when it was in the capitol and started by Gov. Gaylord Nelson. She worked in Gov. Lucy's office in the capitol and other state offices. She was secretary of her Dept. of Comparative Literature at the University of Wisconsin and retired in the 1980's. After marrying Paul W. C. Schulz in 1974, they moved to Fort Atkinson in 1979. They both loved their home, gardening, and each day together with each other and their dog. Paul, after 25 years, predeceased her. In 2005, Audrey moved to an apartment building with her sweet dog. She was a young 82 and ill, but still very active. She still had plants, and good neighbors at the Apartment Woodside II, as well as potluck and birthday parties. Everyone decorated for every holiday. She loved music, played the flute in the city orchestra for a few summers. She also taught ballroom dancing in Florida in WWII. Painting and wallpapering were always her favorite indoor activities; gardening, flora and fauna for outdoors. She always said, "Brighten the corner where you are." She leaves two sons, Joshua M. (Betty) and Kristopher A. (MaryAnn); nine grandchildren, Josh Diehm IV, Tina Johnson, Sarah Peterson, Katie Diehm, Christina Miller, Tiffany Miller, Paul Diehm, Dustin Diehm and Kristopher Diehm Jr; many great-grandchildren; and special friend, Rosie. A graveside service is scheduled for family only.
