Madison – Audrey Mabel Hinz, age 86, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Sebring Assisted Living in Madison. She was born on May 15, 1934 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Just) Tasch. Audrey graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy in 1952. Audrey spent most of her life from birth through high school on a farm in the Town of Forest, but lived for 5 years in St. Louis before moving back home to Forest.
Audrey married her high school sweetheart Duane Hinz on June 16, 1956, in Town of Forest, Wiscconsin, and they lived all but three years of their married life in Madison. Throughout their children’s school-age years, Audrey volunteered as a teacher’s aid, receptionist at a pregnancy-counseling center, and was an exam proctor for the State of Wisconsin. She ultimately retired in 2000 from SES where she worked as a secretary. Faith and church were a very important part of Audrey’s life, and she was involved in LWMS, and volunteered with the ESL (English as a Second Language) Program at the Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel in Madison.
Audrey had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir with her husband Duane, and later her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bruce. Audrey was always artistically inclined, and enjoyed sewing, painting, gardening, and was a master flower arranger – often using many flowers from her own garden. Audrey and Duane were both devoted supporters of the arts, and the couple worked together as ushers at the Madison Civic Center (now Overture Center) for 35 years.
She is survived by her husband, Duane Hinz; her children, Kathleen (Bruce) Beth, Jana Schumann, and Gregory (Melissa) Hinz; 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Jeffrey Joseph and Leslie Ann; a granddaughter, Miranda Schumann; brothers, Michael and infant Donald; and sisters, Edna, Ella and Marian
A memorial service is pending, and a private service for the immediate family was held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Madison.
Audrey’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Sebring Memory Care Unit of Coventry Village and the staff at Agrace Hospice for the loving care provided to her, as well as the love and support from the pastors and congregation of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, Agrace Hospice, or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
