Audrey May Pendergast

Sun Prairie- Audrey May Pendergast, age 98, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the UW hospital in Madison. She was born on May 4, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Amanda Thurber. Audrey graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee in 1944. She met the love of her life John “Jack” Pendergast in 1943. In 1945 Jack went into the U.S. Army to serve in WWII as a combat medic. Audrey and Jack were reunited in 1946. They were married in St. Robert’s church in Milwaukee on April 29, 1950.

Audrey was a charter member of St. Albert the Great church in Sun Prairie and did a lot of volunteer work there, including elected President of parish council. She was elected and served for nine years on the Sun Prairie School board. Audrey did lots of work on school and other community committees. She loved to travel and did visit most of the US, Europe, Israel with Father Bakke and other foreign countries. Audrey made a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes. Her greatest moment was during a public audience with Pope John Paul while traveling in Rome with now Cardinal Dolan.

Audrey was in the business world for over 50 years. She was trained by the WI telephone company to be a supervisor and instructor. For over 39 years she was a tax advisor and office supervisor for H&R Block. Audrey was blessed with four children, Mark (Rose), John (Karyn), Paul (Gwen), and Lynn (Don) Caine; six grandchildren, Martin, Katie, Dylan Pendergast, John, Donny, Elizabeth (Eric Stein) Caine; two great grandsons, Henry and Jacob Stein; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack, in 1983; two brothers, James and Charles; and three sisters-in-law.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, immediately following the Mass, in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass on Wednesday at church. Memorials may be made to St. Albert church or to the UW Carbone Cancer Center at UW Hospital.
