Barbara (Broughton) Chase, age 64, passed away on Fri. Oct. 15, 2010. Barbara was born October 31, 1945 in Colfax, Washington to W.A. (Al) and Marguerite (Erblang) Broughton. In 1948, the family moved to Platteville, Wisconsin. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1964 and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from UW Platteville in 1968.

On July 20, 1968, Barbara was married to Richard Chase of Platteville. The couple has lived in Madison since their marriage. Barbara worked for several employers, mainly the State of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin Extension. She retired in January 2008

She is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters: Katherine Chase of McKees Rocks, PA and Susan Chase of Pittsburgh PA; four grandsons - Curt, Kyle & Carl Tomco and Mason Thompson-Lowe; three siblings, Nancy Broughton, Sally (Mark) Reed and William (Bill) (Jacalyn) Broughton; several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Margie Broughton and her son-in-law, Trevor (Andrew) Thompson-Lowe.

Funeral services will be held on Wed. Oct. 20, 2010 at 1:00 p. m. at CRESS FUNERAL SERVICE, 6021 University Ave. with Rev. Katie Baardseth presiding. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Tues. Oct. 19, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p. m. and also Wed. from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, Gilda's Club of Madison or to a charity of your choice.
