Barbara Cook

September 14, 1943 — July 7, 2017

Stoughton- Barbara L. Cook (nee Lemonds), age 73, of Stoughton, passed away as a result of a recent injury, on July 7, 2017, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. Barbara was born on September 14, 1943 in Traverse City, Michigan, to Bruce and Eileen (nee Gardner) Lemonds. In Barbara's younger years she lived in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin. She lived in Stoughton during her teen years and in around there for most of the rest of her life. Barbara held a number of different jobs including production line worker, secretary, postal letter carrier and clerk, and data entry operator for the State of Wisconsin which she enjoyed until she was unable to continue due to disability. Barbara was partially disabled much of her adult life because of a childhood accident and as a result spent the last years of her life at Stoughton Meadows assisted living facility. Barbara was a strong and straight forward woman who fought for what she believed in. She tried to be friendly, welcoming, and caring with those she met.

Barbara married Kenneth Cook in 1961. Bryant Cook, her son and only child, was born in 1963. Bryant was Barbara's pride and joy from the day he was born. She was proud to be his mother and said so when she spoke of him. Barbara enjoyed talking and meeting with friends and family and she also took pleasure in reading and recently listening to books on tape. She was a Packers fan and was particularly a Brewers fan.

Barbara is survived by her son, Bryant Cook, of Arlington, Virginia; sister Sandy (Mike) Daggett of Kent City, Michigan; brother Jerry (Linda) Lemonds of Steger, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including those at Stoughton Meadows. She is also survived by her special friends, Anne and Barb (her life long friend).

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her sisters, Yvonne Lemonds, Kathy Lanham, Patricia Hoff, and Geraldine Lemonds; and her brothers Roger Lemonds and Donald Lemonds.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect Street, Stoughton, with Pastor Tony Kolasch officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services Thursday.

Special thanks is given to the Dane and Rock county social service workers who aided her; Stoughton Meadows for caring and helping her in the final years; St. Mary's Hospital and UW Rehabilitation Hospital after her recent accident; and Agrace Hospice Care for comforting her during the last days of her life.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! to all those who befriended and loved my mother during her life. Mom, you are now free of your earthly bodily pain.

"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3
