Barbara Gschwend

McFarland- Barbara Ford Gschwend passed peacefully on June 9, 2022.

Barbara graduated Lakeview Elementary School and East High School in Madison, and attended the University of Wisconsin. She entered the Health Insurance field, and enjoyed a career of over forty years at WPS Insurance.

Barbara had a beautiful singing voice. She sang with many choirs and barbershop quartets, and won quite a few honors. It was a great joy to hear her sing.

Barb was a single mom to two rambunctious boys. She worked full time. She always found time to take the boys to the beach, ice skating, for a zoom down the Olbrich toboggan run, out for pizza, to the drive in theater, or for a boisterous weekend with relatives at the family cottage.

She especially loved north woods camping, and would take the boys and her mother to northern Wisconsin several times each summer. We’re not sure how she did it all, but are in awe that she did.

Barbara was blessed with close, life-long friends. Including Marcia, Leroy, Scottie, Dave, Doris, Karen, and sister-in-law Carol.

Barbara is preceded in death by father Leo, mother Agnes, and brother James.

Barbara is survived by sons Richard, Ronald (Janet), grandchildren, nieces, and great-grandchildren.

Services are planned for Monday June 20, 2022 at 11:00am at Christ the King church in McFarland, Wisconsin. A gathering of family and friends will follow from 12:00–2:00 at the church. A private burial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, hug a special mom.
