Barbara Shaw

MADISON
Barbara D. Shaw, age 96, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012. She was born in Washington D.C. on August 3, 1915. A lifelong resident of Madison, the former Barbara Dudley attended Randall School, Madison West High School, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1939. After graduation, she served as art supervisor of the Edgerton Public School System for two years and later served in the same position at River Forest, Illinois. She was united in marriage to John R. Shaw on June 15, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Barbara was a member of Pi Beta Phi, the Madison Art Guild, the Elvehjem Art Center and the Madison Art Center. She was also a member of Friends of the Arboretum and the Audubon Society. While a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, she was appointed a deacon. Barbara was an active member of the Attic Angel Association for more than 20 years. Long a summer resident of Door County, she was a life member of Ridges Sanctuary of Baileys Harbor.

She is survived by her two daughters, Ellen (Frederick H.) Miller of Madison, and Susan (Randy) Bovre; three grandchildren, Kathleen (Eric) Wren, Joanna Lemmer, and Andrew Koepnick; and a great-granddaughter, Sydney Wren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jill Dudley, and two nieces, Liz and Jackie from Greenville, Virginia and she was preceded in death by her brother, Cmdr. (Rtd.) Sherman F. Dudley. Many thanks to all her friends and special thanks to Mary, her caregiver.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4100 Nakoma Road, Madison on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11 a.m.

The family suggests that memorials be given to the Friends of the Arboretum, 1207 Seminole Highway, Madison, WI 53711 or the Ridges, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202.
