Madison--Barbara Ann Stine (Barb, Barbie), age 74, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009 at University Hospital surrounded by members of her family. Barbara was born in Baraboo on July 15, 1935, the daughter of the late Jeanette (Rueckert) Hornbeck and Richard Mauer. She was a graduate of Portage High School. Barb was united in marriage to Bennie Stine, Sr. on December 19, 1963 in Boulder, CO. Bennie preceded her in death on July 31, 1998. Barb was a longtime Madison resident having worked at St. Mary's Hospital for 20 years until her retirement in 1999. In 2000 she continued to work part time at Walgreens on Northport Drive. Barb had a love for teddy bears, the Green Bay Packers, Dancing with the Stars and especially Elvis Presley. 

Barb is survived by her two sons, Ron (April Tuck) Carter of Jeffersonville, VT and Bennie (Judy Schubert) Stine, Jr. of Monona; and daughter, Connie Stine of Burlington, WI. She is further survived by good friends including, Ruth, Layne, Bev and many friends from St. Mary's Hospital and Walgreens.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The family wishes to send special thanks to the staff of UW Hospital's Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of Barb and her family. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Cress Funeral Home. Barb's family will greet friends from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare, Inc.
