Beatrice R. Lindberg

August 4, 1934 — June 28, 2011

Madison - Beatrice Lindberg died peacefully in the fresh breeze amid birdsong in a garden at Hospice Center (our deepest gratitude to Hospice) with her life mate, Leon Lindberg, at her side on June 28.

Born in Northern California, she moved from the ocean waves to the frozen tundra of Wisconsin with her husband, a young professor of political science at the UW. Here they started a family: first with Andrea Marie, followed three years later with Kaia Nicole. At this time they established ""The Group"", beloved friends who shared in their life in Madison. The family lived in Europe many times and for many years, becoming the tight unit they remain today.

Beatrice was a natural intellectual, interested in a broad spectrum of poetry, languages, world culture, music from Chopin to hip hop, history, literature, fine and world cuisine... She was an artist. As a weaver she created sculptural and functional art culminating in a piece at the International Biannale show in Switzerland. She fed many of Leon's graduate students. She was an English language teacher for spouses of foreign students who were at the UW. She was a docent at the Elvejhem Art Museum (now Chazen), participating in a book of poetry inspired by works of art. She shared this passion with young and old on her tours. She was a lover of the natural world; supporting environmental causes. Together with Leon she hiked, camped and created an amazing garden. She was always game for new experiences. She loved to laugh and play. Her silliness and smile will stay with us always.

Most importantly she was the perfect life partner for Leon, a nurturing and loving mother to Kaia and Andrea, a loving and fun grandma for Erik and Thyra and a sweet mother-in-law to Mark.

She leaves a big hole in our lives, but leaves our hearts full. Thanks Bea! Thanks Mom and Grandma!

Any donations in her honor can be directed to the Lakeshore Nature Preserve or Olbrich Gardens, two of her beloved places.
