Benny J. Nelson, age 80 died on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at HospiceCare, Inc., Fitchburg.
Ben was born on November 1, 1930 in Huron, South Dakota, the son of Clark and Leona (Clayton) Nelson. The family moved to Madison when he was a young boy and later settled in Token Creek. Ben was proud of his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served from 1949-1953. He was a life member of VFW Post 8483. He was also a member of American Legion Post 348. Ben retired from Ohmeda in 1992 after 22 years as a machinist. He was an avid Packers, Badgers, NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed country music and reading. He married Sybella Bork on April 12, 1958 at the DeForest Moravian Church. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.

Ben is survived by his wife, Sybella; son, Dennis of Packwaukee; daughter, Jill (John) Scherbert of Endeavor; grandchildren: Cody, Austin, Wade and Ty Nelson, Anthony, Angela and Bradley Smith; brothers, Russell of Westport, Tom (Nancy) of Windsor, Jim (Janet) of Waunakee; sisters, Mary Marty of Madison, Laurel (Hank) Ellingson of Lodi; sister-in-law, Dorothy Nelson of Sun Prairie. He is further survived by many nephews, nieces, and other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Jack and Gerald; sister, Rosemary and twin sister, Beverly; a very special granddaughter, Michele Koster; nephew, Jack Nelson and his wife Pat; niece Christie Roach; brother-in-law, Fricky Marty; sister-in-law, Norma Nelson; father and mother-in-law, Herman and Elvera Bork.

The family would like to thank Dr. Greg Motl for all the years of compassion and care. Also, the staff of the ER and ICU at St. Mary's Hospital and the staff of HospiceCare, Inc.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, with Rev. Dr. David J. Berggren officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

We never lose the ones we love; for even though they are gone, their memory lives on within the hearts of those who care.
