Madison -- Bernard L. ""Bernie"" Brysh, age 89, died on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Segoe Gardens Assisted Living. He was born on October 13, 1919 in Farrell, Pennsylvania, the youngest of five children of John and Louise Brysh. Bernie graduated from Farrell High School and John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. During World War II he served as a naval officer in the South Pacific. While in Washington D.C., Bernie met his future wife, Julia M. Brysh of Cove, Arkansas. They were married in Miami, Florida on June 7, 1947, and subsequently lived in Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio before moving to Madison in 2000. Bernie spent most of his business career as a chemical engineer at the Westinghouse Corporation in Sharon, PA and was always active on the Farrell school board and as a Farrell city councilman.

Bernie is survived by his son, Dr. L. Stanley (Judy) of Middleton; and five grandchildren, David Roberts-Brysh, Erin Janusis, Natalie Pacek, Patrick Brysh, Jonathan Brysh; four great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cindy; and his sister, Helen ""Holly"" Stefanish. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and son, Mark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison with Msgr. Donald J. Heiar officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour before the service at the church.
