Stoughton- Bernetta ""Bernie"" Weldon Lewis passed away at the age of 93 on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg. She was born in Shickley, Nebraska, on July 23, 1917, daughter of Katherine (Weldon) and Leonard Hillgren. As a young woman, she traveled to Wisconsin, attended Madison Technical College, and was employed by National Guardian Life Insurance Co. There she met her husband, Morris S. Lewis, a Stoughton native. They settled in his family home and raised two daughters, Barbara and Melinda. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed sewing and needle work, travel, bridge, and socializing with friends. Bernie is survived by her two daughters, Barbara and husband Cris Johnson of Ripon, and Melinda and husband Robert Ferraro of Madison; six grandchildren: Erik (Emily), Maren, Soren (Charlotte), Christopher Johnson and Felicia and Francesca Ferraro; two great grandchildren: Anna and Sophia Johnson. Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, her parents, and all five siblings. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Skaalen Home Chapel, with Rev. James Koza officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until the time of services Sunday at Skaalen. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bernie may be sent to the Hospice Care, 5395 E.
