Bernice Benson

March 8, 1927 — November 5, 2014

Waunakee - Bernice L. Benson, age 87, was peacefully taken by heavenly angels on November 5, 2014. She was born on March 8, 1927, the daughter of Herman and Louisa (Laubmeier) Luther in Plain, Wisconsin. Bernice was one of 14 children. On December 11, 1948, Bernice was united in marriage to Harold A. Benson. Together they raised 12 children. Not only being a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she also found time to make delicious homemade meals and desserts. Bernice was known to bring many of her treats to the nursing home and to the dialysis center. She also loved making Christmas candy, canning and even making homemade brats. Her heart was always in the right place and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by ten children; Debbie (Kenny)Cline, Bernice Webb, Terry (Noah) Blizzard, Laura (David) Dowden, Harold (Debra) Benson, Mark Benson, Scott Benson, Mary Benson, Jeanette Benson, and Darlene Benson, 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and five siblings; Millie Higgins, Caroline Schonasky, Mary Ellen (Norm) Capener, Bob (Jo) Luther and Fred Luther. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other loving family and numerous friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold A. Benson, two sons; Alan and Fred Benson and eight brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 South Street, Waunakee on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11:00 am with Monsignor James Gunn presiding. A visitation will be held at WINN-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee on Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and again on Monday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Melissa Woznick from the Senior Center and to the Dialysis Center for all the care and compassion given to Bernice over the years.
