Bernice Cook

January 22, 1924 — February 24, 2015

MADISON- Bernice Cook entered eternal life on February 24, 2015.
She was born on January 22, 1924, one of three daughters (Emily, Bernice and Polly) to Paloma and Melvin Deathe. During World War II she met the love of her life, George Cook, at a USO dance. They were married on February 13, 1943 and together they raised 5 children, Bonnie (Bob Davis), Lana Hammes, Deborah Cook, Doug Cook (Cindy) and Lori (David) More. She is survived by a sister (Emily), 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. They lived many places in the Midwest, settling in Madison, Wisconsin. Bernice worked for years at the UW Memorial Library in the binding department.
Upon retirement, she and George spent many wonderful years in Florida in the Lakeland area. After George passed in 2008, Bernice returned to Madison and enjoyed spending time with her family. She very much enjoyed her life and friends at Rosewood Villa apartments. She was an avid knitter, providing mittens and hats every Christmas for family and charities. She was an active member of the Middleton Community Church.
A memorial service will be held at ROSEWOOD VILLA, 902 N. Highpoint Road, Madison in the Community Room on Monday March 9, 2015 at 12 noon officiated by Pastor Iliff, and a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held in the community room from 11:00 am until the time of service.
She made it to 91 years of age, more than she ever imagined. Please join us in celebrating Bernice's life. She was a friend and help to all she met. She will be greatly missed.
