Madison - Bernice J. Meyer, age 88 passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Belmont Nursing Home. She was born on June 24, 1930 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alfred and Laura (Brooks) Eichler.
Following getting married, Bernice moved to Winthrop Harbor, Illinois where they started their family. She moved the family to a small hobby farm in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1963 and into town in the early 1970's. Bernice returned to school to get her GED in 1980. She then went on to become a certified nursing assistant. For several years, Bernice did in live-in home care. In November of 1991, she was very fortunate to travel to Israel. Following that trip in 1992, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin. Bernice had the opportunity to take two mission trips to Jamaica in 2000 and 2001. In her spare time, she was a volunteer driver for RSVP and then moved to Janesville in 2003 to be closer to her church. After having health issues, she moved back to the Madison area in 2012. Bernice thoroughly enjoyed gardening, painting, family campouts, family Christmas dinners, charity work and playing cards and games with her grandchildren and children.
Bernice is survived by her ten loving children; Darlene (Don) Cook, Shirley (Dean) Markuson, William Meyer, Wendy (Jack) Cody, Pamela (Manuel) Cerda, Susan (Kenneth) Cronce, Timothy (Cathy) Meyer, Kathleen (Samuel) Mercado Deborah (Dave) Garcia and Lisa (Ted) Boyer,
25 grandchildren; David, Dennis, Deborah, Elizabeth, Ruth, Melissa, James, Lisa, Debby, Junior, Barb, Jerry, James, Kenneth II, Merranda, Megan, Shannon, Brittany, Charles, William, Justin, Jill, Jim, Rob and Leanne, 37 great grandchildren; Nolan, Nathan, Megan, Garrett, Jordan, Amanda, Alex, Austin, James, Olivia, Lila, Callie, Elle, Ekaterina, Zachariah, Octavian, Isadora, Nathaniel, Carson, Kenny III, Michael, Skylar, Lee, Dayton, Dominic, Lincoln, Bryce, Emily, Joe, Vivienne, Paige, Andy, Wick, Jake, Carly, Sam and Grace.
She is also survived by many other loving family and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Donald Timothy Meyer and her ex-husband William Meyer.
A private family gathering to celebrate Bernice's life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
