Bernice R. Petersen

Petersen, Bernice R. (Friz) Stoughton- Bernice Rachel Petersen (Friz), age 86, died on March 12, 2009 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton.   She was born in Stoughton on February 18, 1923, the daughter of John and Regina (Hougan) Hoveland.   She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1941, and married Carlo E. Petersen on August 19, 1942.   She was preceded in death by her husband; her son Jerry D. (Becky) Petersen; brother, Leo; 2 sisters, Evelyn and Ruby; and her lifelong friend Eunice Swenson.   Bernice is survived by 2 sons, Robert (Pattie Lardie) Petersen, Danny (Lynette) Petersen; and 2 daughters, Kaye (Richard) Kaye and Carla (Michael) Collins.   She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and her cousin, Fred Stein.   Bernice worked most of her life in the restaurant business as a cook and waitress.   She was always the happiest when she was helping someone.   One of her favorite things was a strong cup of black coffee and the more, the better!   She had a great sense of humor and a million dollar smile.   Memorial services will be held for Bernice on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 11:30 am at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress funeral home in Stoughton with the Rev. James Koza officiating.   The family will greet friends on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service.   The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of the Skaalen Nursing Home for her care during the last 7 years.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Skaalen Home, 400 N.
