Bernice E. Schiro

Madison -- Bernice E. Schiro, age 82, died on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. She was born at home on the family farm in Perry Township, Wisconsin, to Edmond and Apollonia (Keller) Sutter, on February 23, 1928. Bernice graduated from Mt. Horeb High School. She married George P. Schiro on October 6, 1951 at Perry Township. Bernice and George were married 46 years. George retired from the Madison Police Dept. in 1980. Bernice was a great mother and mother-in-law, and a wonderful grandmother. Everyone in her large extended family could always count on her for help and support. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Greg) Fasing and grandsons, Jim and Kevin Fasing, all of Denver, Colorado. She is further survived by her two sisters, Lorraine (Bill) Meylor and Karen Sutter, and two brothers, Clarence (Diane) Sutter and Ed (Valeria) Sutter, all of Mt. Horeb; a sister, Edna Candor of Berkley, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and son, Scott. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at church on Wednesday. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Madison. A luncheon at church will follow the burial. Donations in Bernice's name may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; HospiceCare Foundation, Inc.; or a charity of choice. Bernice was an inspiration in coping with illness.
