Bernice J. Zamzow

Marshall/Portage- Bernice Judith Zamzow, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 16, 1916 in Portage the daughter of Merton & Jennie (Larson) Van Wormer. Bernice was united in marriage to William Zamzow on November 9, 1935. Bill was the love of her life, as she was his. Their love has provided a strong foundation for their family. Bernie lived most of her life in Portage while wintering in St. Petersburg, FL with her husband Bill. During their winters, they enjoyed the company of their friends and family. Bernie loved gardening and baking birthday cakes and pies for the grandchildren. She had a talent for drawing and painting beautiful pictures of flowers, trees and birds. In 1988, Bernie and Bill moved from Portage to Marshall and then to Sun Prairie in 2006 where they resided at Prairie Gardens Assisted Living. She is survived by her husband, William; her daughter, Mary (Errol) Polenske; grandchildren, Steve O'Malley, Jim (Mary) O'Malley, Jeff (Lisa) Polenske and Jennifer (Jeff) Justman; great grandchildren, Kim, Jacob, Shae, Hannah, Emma, Connor,Cody, Chase and McKaylie; sister Dorothy Morgan; nices, nephews , other relatives and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Gail, and brothers and sisters. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, 702 North St. with Rev. Scott Carlson officiating. A time of gathering will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Bernie became a Hospice patient in June 2008. Prairie Gardens and HospiceCare provided a loving safe place for Berniee••s end of life. The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers from both facilities for their love and compassion to Bernie.
