Bertha Amanda Turnquist

April 14, 1916 — August 16, 2010

Madison/Sun Prairie -- Bertha Amanda Turnquist, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2010, at Harmony House in Sun Prairie. She was born on April 14, 1916 in Utica, Wisconsin the only child of Torkel and Severnia Knutson. Bertha was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1936, where she always made the honor roll. Bertha married Frank Turnqiust on May 27, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1969. She was a member of the Sunnyside School PTA from 1948-1961. Bertha was a proud member of Trinity Lutheran Church ""Lois Circle"" for 28 years. She spent many wonderful summers with her family at their cottage on Lake Wisconsin. Bertha was a sales associate with Gimbels at East Towne Mall for many years, where she made many wonderful friends. She was very proud of her sons Terry and Tom. In her later years she enjoyed reading Terry's articles of life in the Baraboo Bluffs.

Survivors include her sons, Terry and beloved daughter-in-law Patricia of Baraboo and Thomas (Denise) of Colorado; grandsons, Ted (Tammy) Turnquist of Madison and their children, Travis and Morgan and Eric (Heidi) Turnquist of Sun Prairie and their children, Alyssa and Eliot; granddaughter, Amy (Mark) Elliott of Middleton and their children, Andrew, Alex and Max.

A funeral service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Thursday, August 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Tomberlin officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony House and Care Wisconsin for the love and care given to Bertha in her last years.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the family.
