Bessie Sweet

Bessie Sweet, age 93, a lifetime giver to all, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Coventry Village in Madison. She was born on May 17, 1915 in Madison where she lived much of her life, and in Washington D.C. supporting the Federal Government. In Wisconsin she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she was the Executive Secretary to the late honorable Nathan Heffernan, U.S. attorney, and Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice. She was a member of Beth Israel Center, Hadassah, L'Chaim. She is survived by her brother Leonard Sweet of Appleton; her nephews Jon Scheinman of Fairway, KS, Ted Scheinman of Portland, OR, Michael Cook of Boston, MA, and Jon Sweet of Madison; and numerous beloved grand nephews and nieces She is preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Rose Sweet of Madison, her sisters Dorothy Cook and Esther Scheinman. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison at 10:30AM with Rabbi Joshua Ben-Gideon officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Madison Jewish Community Council, Jewish Social Services, and Beth Israel Center.
