Betty Basile

September 27, 1921 — January 6, 2011

Madison - Betty Jean Basile, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 6th at Attic Angel Place in Middleton, WI.  Arthur, her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, was by her side. Betty was born September 27, 1921 to Herman Emerson Swank and Jennie May (Copeland) Swank in Dayton, Ohio.  She attended school in Rochester, NY later attending Brockport State Teacher's College (NY) and Cardinal Stritch University (WI) with BA and MA degrees in Education.  Betty and Arthur were married in Rochester on August 12, 1944. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Madison and formerly Underwood Memorial Baptist Church in Wauwatosa where a children's room is named in her honor.  Betty retired after 20 years of teaching with the Wauwatosa Public Schools. Betty is survived by - her husband,  Reverend Arthur Edward Basile; children - Susan (Bill) Hausler of Madison, Carolyn (Phillip) Dodds of Clay Center, KS,  Marianne (Judson) Hunt of Plano, TX, Barbara Basile (Felix Lopez) of Chicago, IL;  eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Dorothy Comfort. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Madison, WI on Sunday, January 30 at 3 PM.  The family deeply appreciates the loving care given to Betty by the staff of both Attic Angel Place and Hospice Care. Since Betty had a lifelong commitment to children, the family suggests that memorials in her name be made to the children's ministries of First Baptist Church, Madison or Underwood Memorial Baptist Church, Wauwatosa, WI. Cress Funeral Service is assisting the family.
