Betty Nashold

November 2, 1918 — April 30, 2018

Walworth / Cross Plains
Betty Nashold, 99, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2018 at Milestone Senior Living
in Cross Plains.

Our mom was a kind, caring soul who loved her family and friends, all sports and
everything chocolate!

Mom was born in Ithaca, NY on Nov. 2, 1918. Her parents, Calvin and Mary Stowell,
named her Mary Elizabeth, a name she loved, but the nickname Betty is the name that
stuck. The family moved to Columbus, WI when she was young, and soon grew to
include a sister Helen and brother Cal. Life in Columbus was an adventure. Always on
the go, mom was an outdoor and sports enthusiast her whole life. It was only fitting and
no surprise to anyone that after high school she enrolled at UW LaCrosse to pursue a
degree in Physical Education. After a year she transferred to UW Madison where she
thrived. She loved the UW, the P.E. program complete with 3 sets of identical twins,
anatomy classes at Science Hall, the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and skiing down Bascom
Hill. Mom graduated in 1940 then taught at Beloit HS and Iowa State in Ames. On June
12, 1943 she married Eugene R. Nashold. Our dad was serving in the army and when he
was stationed in Panama, mom returned to UW to pursue her masters degree, however
teachers were needed so she stayed on campus and taught instead. Later, after much
travel their path led them to Walworth, WI where they built a home and raised a family.
During this time they made many lifelong friends, saw their daughters marry wonderful
men, and experienced the biggest joy of all, the birth of grandsons David and
Christopher. Soon the name she cherished most was Gram! Mom said the time spent with
"her boys" were the best years of her life. In 1998 she relocated to Madison to be closer
to those precious grandsons and the next 20 years brought adventures and memories that
will last a lifetime. Thank you "mom", "Betty", "Gram" for everything! You are dearly
loved and will be greatly missed.

Our family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Newcomer and staff for taking such good care of
mom, the staff at Coventry Village in Madison and Milestone Senior Living in Cross
Plains for their kindness and care. Thank you also to Brian, Pat, Lydia and Amy from
Agrace HospiceCare for making mom's final weeks comfortable and peaceful.

Our mom is survived by us, daughters Jane (Jim Brooks), and Linda (Kevin Brosnihan),
grandsons David Brooks (Camille) and Christopher Brooks (Melissa), niece Mary
Kramer, nephews Cal Stowell and Ray Nashold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, sister Helen Duhamel,
brother Cal Stowell and many cherished friends.

There will be a family graveside service in Columbus at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to Middleton Outreach Ministry (M.O.M.) 3502 Parmenter St.
