Betty H. Nemec, a vivacious, outgoing, loving wife, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed away peacefully at Attic Angel, Middleton, WI, on May 18, 2022 at age 100.
Betty was born to Samuel and Anna Zguris in Yonkers, New York on February 14, 1922 – a Valentine’s Day baby! After graduating from Charles E. Gorton High School, Yonkers, New York, Betty set out to find a job working in the finance industry. She worked over forty years for Yonkers Savings that eventually became HSBC in a variety of customer service positions - she loved working directly with customers of the bank.
Betty met her future, beloved husband, Frank R. Nemec, who lived around the corner from her parents’ home in 1955. They were married two years later in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bronxville, NY, on June 8, 1957. They were happily married for 43 wonderful, loving years until her husband’s death on November 10, 2000.
More than anything, Betty and her husband loved to travel - to Europe to visit relatives. Taking cruises was another pastime they enjoyed, traveling to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Alaska many times. Of all their travels, their favorite place to visit was Hawaii.
After her husband’s death, Betty continued living full-time in Sun City, Bluffton, SC. She joined We Go Group which went everywhere – cultural events, theater shows, musicals, sporting events. After moving to Wisconsin, Betty loved going to hear her nephew-in-law, Fredrick Schrank, MSO Principal bassist, play in the Madison Symphony Orchestra.
In memory of her mother and older sister, who preceded her in death, Betty became a donor to the American Heart Association. For nearly twenty years, she regularly attended the annual Heart Balls in Hilton Head, SC and more recently in Madison, WI.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband (Frank Nemec), her parents (Samuel and Anna Zguris), her sister (Nancy Zguris) and her nephew-in-law, Fredrick Schrank. She is survived by her sister (Katherine McKellar), her nieces – Barbara Schrank, Kathryn Barto (Richard), and Deborah McKellar, and her grand-nieces Alexandra Schrank and Jacqueline Barto.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Agrace Hospice and Attic Angel staff for their compassionate care of Betty
