Betty Redmond, age 97, passed away on Monday August 5th, 2024, at home in Madison. She was born on September 8th, 1926, in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of Effie Peck and Russell McNeill.
Betty spent her early childhood in the La Crosse, WI area with her family, moving to Oregon, WI when she was a teenager. Betty attended Madison West High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Art. Betty married Arthur Redmond on October 6th, 1950, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Madison. They were married for 73 years, until Art passed away in October of 2023.
Betty and Art moved to Middleton in 1955 where they started a family. In the late 1960’s, Betty began her career with the Middleton-Cross Plains School District as head secretary for the Kromrey Middle School. She worked for the school district until the early 1980’s when she retired. In retirement, Betty and Art spent time flower gardening and selling flowers at the Hilldale farmer’s market. They also enjoyed traveling throughout Wisconsin, with their favorite destination being Door County.
She is survived by her son, Douglas; grandchildren Caitlin (Chad Drier) and Christian; and great-grandchildren Easton and Granger Drier.
The family will be having a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in memory of Betty to the Olbrich Botanical Society in Madison.
