Betty B. Shimon, born 7-2-1927, passed away peacefully on Friday February 27, 2009 in Gainesville, Florida. Â Betty grew up in South Carolina and went on to college earning her nursing degree. Â She met her husband, Robert (Bob), while working as a nurse at Fort Jackson Army base. Â She and Bob moved to Madison, WI in 1956 and raised their 3 children, Deb, Dick and Cindy. Â Betty enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren, whether it was golfing, swimming or attending one of their events. Â She was always proud of everyone's achievements and was great mom! Â She was an accomplished pilot and nurse practitioner who never tired of learning and she carried her neurology and anatomy books with her for good reading. Â Betty was also active with her many friends through the years, always enjoying a good laugh. Â Betty (GrandyLou) and Bob moved to Florida in 1991 to relax and take on the role of grandparents. Â Â Betty is survived by her children Deb (Jay) and Cindy (Keith), her grandchildren Jessica and Daniel, her sister Bobby and her brothers George and Charles. Â She was sadly preceded in death by her son, Richard, her husband, Robert and her brother Dick. Â Visitation will be in Madison, WI on Saturday, March 7 at the Cress Funeral Home at 6021 University Avenue at 11:00 AM with a service at 1:00 PM. Â In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Betty's name to Haven Hospice at 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606 or to the American Cancer Society are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
