Betty Jane Wade

Madison - Jane (Betty) Katherine Gavitt WADE died January 28, 2010, at the home of her son Dave and his wife Marleen Wade under the care of Hospice. Betty was born July 20, 1921 to Arthur W. and Katherine (White) Gavitt in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Austin High School and worked as a sales clerk at Madigan's Department Store. She married Stanley Edgar Wade on November 7, 1947, They made their home in Skokie, Illinois, moving to Madison, Wisconsin in 1953 where they owned and operated a ServiceMaster franchise for many years. After their children were all in school, Betty worked at Schweiger Drug Store, and then for the American Family Cafeteria, until her retirement. Betty enjoyed traveling, especially to see extended family in Tacoma, WA, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. Until Stan died, she enjoyed weekend travels with the kids all around Wisconsin. While acknowledging she would always be a ""city girl"", she just loved the beauty of Wisconsin. She was a voracious, reader, a self-learner, and always read the daily newspapers.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Joy Turner of Marshfield, Steve Wade of Madison, Judy Wade of Beloit and Dave (Marleen) Wade, of Madison; her grandchildren, Mark Turner of LaCrosse, Kirk Turner of Sun Prairie, Chad Wade of North Freedom and Maureen Wade of Madison; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Joy Turner of Mt. Horeb, Khianna Marie Turner-Glass of Sun Prairie and Drake Wade of North Freedom; good neighbors, Lori and (Herb, deceased) Wenger and many good friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stan, an infant sister, Pearl, a brother, George Gavitt and a nephew Robert Gavitt.

A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., on Saturday, January 30, 2010, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona.
